I find most of my friends greatly impressed with the Culture of the so called Western People. They want to be like them or they do not want to follow theirs. The same happens when some Tourist visit this Land of God and get so fascinated with ours. I remember that whenever I go to the ISKON Temple in Mathura or Holy Land of Rathakund, I find some Foreign Sathus Chanting Sanskrit Mantras much better than I can do or even much better than those of our fake Saints roaming on the Streets there. I have also been in the fight with my some friends when I said that as an Indian one must know about their own religion and culture before praising someone else’s. We have forgotten most of the Writers, Poets who have remarkably written so well that even once glance of their Poetry can completely change someone’s life. I may also challenge here that atleast 60% of the youth cannot even speak our National Anthem properly and those same talk of Shakespeare, Wordsworth and what not.
Today, People have actually forgotten how to treat their Elders. Touching the feet of their Parents is laughed at just because the youth does not want to bow down in respect or may be as they want to follow western culture. I hear in the News that a Daughter Killed her parents just because they opposed her love, the daughter so easily forgot the love of her parents of some odd 2 decades for a love that has just lasted for some months. When the Person touches his elder’s feet, he is made to realize that this is in respect and they will always be the more experienced guiding factor to them even though you become The Richest Person on this Earth. May be the Parents were wrong but the respect should and must not die.
The Youth wants “live in” relations first because they might have seen Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie doing the same and enjoying almost all the pleasures in their lives. A couple there may get kids even before their marriage and still want to be called as single but here when two people tie their knots they are bound with an unbreakable string. Has anyone ever realized why they do this marriage thing at a time when the candle costs more than the cake and the kids do watch with parents getting married with the boy/girl friends standing along them as the Best man? Italian PM who is attributed to be in relation with a girl as young as her daughter and now her wife wants a divorce which will impact the PM’s Pocket by almost millions of dollar. I guess this is the reason why they hate to be couple till they grow old enough to find none. As far as my country is concerned all the rituals being done has got some meaning which the foreigners have also appreciated and tried to marry in the same fashion, its just the reader need to find it as I have hardly attended any marriage so I cannot enlighten you on that aspect but In India the relation starts with a Sacrifice, Compromise and Cooperation. But unfortunately very few understand their meaning. As per the Books, most of the marriages that end up in a court room were Love Marriages or the one that were started from some lunatic Dating sites. Though there are many loops in our Rituals including dowry and other stuffs but I am not gonna bring them here.
Lastly English has become the most important language in India. Most of our Young Citizens do not really like to communicate in their Native language and hence our country has almost lost 200 languages like Khasi because the Child wants to learn English and want to be at par with the world. A person is laughed at when he is unable to pull out some good words from his throat. Then I may here remind you that Japanese still use their own language in their official format. The Chinese the Germans and the Portuguese are some of the Nations who are still not well verse with English because they strictly follow their own language in their country. If you want to follow some one atleast follow them properly as when Englishmen ruled the world they atleast spread their language to 195 nations and almost 7 continents speak English now but here we are killing our own language, more so humiliating the others who are honestly using theirs. I am not against English at all rather I feel every person should know atleast 3 languages. FIRST IS HIS MOTHER TONGUE, SECOND HIS NATIONAL LANGUAGE AND LAST BEING THE INTENATIONAL LANGUAGE.

What you describe is the constant struggle all societies face between tradition and the inevitable change that time brings. Old traditions will be done away with and new traditions will take its place.
As an Indian who lives in the West it is my opinion that I have learnt as much from the West as I have from India.

I appreciate you comment Hari...India has almost lost many languages in this so called change because we all want t learn English... In Modernization Drive we are forgetting our culture completely which needs to be preserved and followed. And no Doubt The westerns were the one's who rule the world for than 3 centuries so they had sumthing which we all should learn...but without forgetting ours. There are hundred of Books and Literature unknown in India written In Marathi, Bengali which is untouched by youth but we chant Wordsworth, Shakespear etc without having them read ours...I dont object them but I dont like this ignorance as well...
